Delta

This Sunday, May 31, is International Flight Attendant Day, a moment to pause and recognize Delta’s nearly 30,000 flight attendants and the vital role they play. From ensuring safety at 35,000 feet to creating small moments that matter in the cabin, our flight attendants are the reason millions of customers choose Delta again and again.

Flight attendant Joan Prince Crandall: A career that spans generations

In honor of this special day, we are spotlighting two Delta flight attendants – one at the very beginning of her journey and one who has spent a lifetime dedicated to it.

At one end is Delta’s newest flight attendant, New York City-based Alise Broussard, who is just stepping into the skies with fresh excitement and a sense of possibility. At the other is Delta’s most senior flight attendant, Seattle-based Joan Prince Crandall, whose remarkable career has spanned nearly seven decades of change in aviation – and who still shows up with the same commitment to care and service.

Together, their stories reflect what makes the role so unique. It’s not just a job – it’s a calling that evolves but never loses its purpose.

What does it take to be a great flight attendant?

A recent customer described it best: “There should be a separate category for flight attendants. They must have the attitude of Mary Poppins, the fortitude of a Viking, the energy of a toddler and the flexibility of a world-class gymnast.”

It’s a lighthearted observation – but one that rings true for a role that demands empathy, resilience and adaptability, often all within a single flight.

“Flight attendants play a critical role in delivering the experience our customers expect and deserve,” said Chief Operation Officer Dan Janki. “Their professionalism, training and care are essential to running a safe, reliable operation and to building the loyalty that defines our brand. Their impact is felt on every flight, every day.”

Two paths, one purpose

While Alise is just beginning to write her story and Joan continues a legacy decades in the making, both share something fundamental: a passion for caring for others.

On International Flight Attendant Day, we celebrate not just two remarkable careers, but the thousands of stories unfolding every day across our cabins – all connected by that same enduring commitment to safety and care.
