Will you be travelling through Helsinki (HEL)?
Don’t miss Finnair’s exhibition with flight attendant uniforms from over the past 100 years .
A beige stewardess uniform designed by Marke Jalkanen and Harriet Gripenwald from Marimekko was introduced at the beginning of 1975. The uniform consisted of a blazer, a front-pleated skirt and shoes designed by Pertti Palmroth. The beige, green and red details in the scarves, ties and umbrellas were chosen as they were aesthetically pleasing against the brown interior of the new DC-10.
We’re currently hosting an exhibition at Helsinki Airport (near gate 29 in the Schengen area!), where you can find a selection of Finnair uniforms over the years and vote for your favourite. You have the chance to win two return economy flights to a European destination of choice.
Uniforms over the years have typically represented the latest trends in Finnish design. In the 1970s, the outfits of Finn Hostesses, who served First-Class passengers on long-haul flights, were still a separate entity. A design contest was held annually, and famous Finnish designers competed to dress the Finn Hostesses. Finn Hostesses were thus models for the Finnish clothing industry.
The exhibition of Finnair’s flight attendant uniforms is held at Helsinki Airport from 1 June to 30 November.
