Last Thursday, the Intrepid Museum’s British Airways Concorde made its way back home following months-long restoration project in the Brooklyn Navy Yard!

On Wednesday, March 13, Concorde was loaded onto a barge and travel up the Hudson River to Weeks Marine in Jersey City, N.J. for storage overnight. On Thursday, March 14, it begin its final journey back to the Museum, arriving between 9:15am to 9:30am. Approximately two hours after its arrival, the Concorde was lifted by a 300 foot crane and returned to Pier 86.

Pier 86 will open to the public at 9:00am to allow visitors to view Concorde’s arrival. For those unable to visit in person, you can watch the Concorde’s journey via the “Concorde Cam” livestream available on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, offering an immersive front-row view of the trip home.

The British Airways Concorde, the fastest commercial aircraft in the world, has been a staple of the Intrepid Museum since its arrival to Pier 86 in 2003. The months-long restoration project included removal of the aircrafts paint coating, sanding, and recoating, using the same colors and markings that made Concorde a true aviation legend.

Concurrent with the restoration, the Museum is renovating a section of Pier 86 adjacent to where Concorde is displayed.

Tours of the Concorde will resume on April 4, 2024. Visitors will be able to go inside the Concorde, hear about its history and peer into its sophisticated flight deck.
