As a surfer, the urge to return to the golden beaches and big waves of Oʻahu’s North Shore hasn’t subsided the least since my very first visit some 25 years ago. In fact, I’d argue that few other destinations in the world have the remarkable staying power that Hawaii has enjoyed for well over 50 years.

These extremely remote Pacific islands even seduced artists like Georgia O’Keeffe – most famous for imagery from the Southwest. In 1939, she travelled to Hawaii (on Dole’s dime) and spent many weeks depicting the lush nature in a handful of paintings from Oʻahu and Maui.

Oʻahu is a quintessential holiday island that serves up everything I look for while on vacation; an equilibrium of solitude, beauty and a decent selection of entertainment. Yes, you can have it all on Oʻahu.
